Get on the Bus!

While browsing around the internet, I came across Obama/Bettis '08

I must say, this is a great site. Run by "The Bus Driver" which is not a reference to Jerome, but in fact Fullback Tim Lester, for those of you who might remember him from the pre-Dan Kreider days.

Personally, I'm a huge Obama supporter, so this is right up my alley. I've added a link to his site to the links on the side of the page.

I'm also working on adding the Steelers current roster to the top of the blog, to make it easier for people to reference roster moves when I mention them.

Fare thee well Najeh

The Post-Gazette announced today that the Steelers have released running back Najeh Davenport, along with three other players to trim their roster to 82 players. They must cut two more by the start of training camp on July 27.

In all honesty, this was probably a good move. With the signing of Mewelde Moore from Minnesota and drafting Rashard Mendenhall (I'm still working on coming up with a good nickname for him), the Steelers were not going to keep 6-7 running backs. I'd like to see them re-sign Dan Kreider, but I don't think Arians is going to go for that one. Najeh is still a relatively young player and this gives him the opportunity to sign elsewhere before training camp starts. I'm sure he'll be able to work his way into a system that needs a 2nd running back.

Basically what this means is that the Steelers would rather keep Gary Russell around and try to develop him than keep Najeh. Logistically, Najeh probably commanded a higher salary than Russell because he has been in the league longer, so the move makes sense from a salary cap standpoint.

Players we like get cut every year. Last year it was Chukky Okobi (who probably would have been better than Mahan at center last year). Najeh is the first one to go this year, meaning we lost our best blocking back (because Kreider isn't on the roster right now).

And for posterity, the Heinz Field High Jump one last time...

As an addendum, Jason Bay just hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 13th for the Buccos to beat the first-place Tampa Bay Rays. It's just as weird to think of Tampa Bay being in first place in the AL East as it is to think the Pirates didn't blow a game. (Gamecenter)

Frequently Asked Questions

About Us

Who are you?

The Steelers n'at is run by Ian and John. We met at the great institution of learning that is Allegheny College.

What are you doing now?

We are both currently in Grad School. Ian is in grad school in Pittsburgh and lives in the East End. John is in grad school in Lancaster and lives out there. Ian frequently makes fun of John for this.

How long have you been Steelers fans?

All our lives, you won't find bandwagoners or bridge-jumpers here. Ian and John both grew up in the greater Pittsburgh area.

Do you go to any games?

Ian is lucky enough to go. His family has season tickets. He has been going to games since he was 5. He misses his old section at Three Rivers Stadium (Section 606) and the great group of people that he used to sit with. He still goes to all the home games with his dad (who sometimes gets shout-outs in the blog when he makes an astute observation). Ian's family is responsible for turning him into a rabid fan.

Blog Opening!

Welcome to The Steelers n'at. I'm hoping that I'll be able to have this blog up and running at full speed by the start of preseason games in August. The blog is a work in progress, so if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to get in touch with me.

I'm also looking for co-writers, so if you're interested in helping out with the blog, please send me an e-mail!

My plan is to have previews of each NFL team posted before the Hall of Fame Game on August 3.
